Federal Skilled Trades Program

Workers with experience in a Trade may be eligible to apply for the Federal Skilled Trades Program. To qualify for the Federal Skilled Trades Programs, an individual must meet work experience and language ability requirements. Applicants must also have a valid job offer or a Provincial Certificate of Qualification pertaining to an applicant’s Trade.

Work Experience Requirements

• An applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of eligible work experience in the previous 5 years. During the entirety of the work experience, the applicant must have satisfied the minimum requirements of his/her respective trade in the country of work

To be eligible, the work experience must fall under one or more of the following groups:

• Major Group 72: industrial, electrical and construction trades
• Major Group 73: maintenance and equipment operations
• Major Group 82: supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
• Major Group 92: processing, manufacturing, and utilities supervisors ad central control operators
• Minor Group 632: chefs and cooks
• Minor Group 633: butchers and bakers

Language Ability Requirements

• An applicant must have a minimum of CLB 5 for speaking and listening and CLB 4 for reading and writing.
